Overlays
Titles, callouts, elements, annotations, and captions timed on your OhRec recording.
How overlays work
Overlays are timed layers composited on top of your video at export. Each overlay has a start and end time on the timeline and a position in the preview. They are included in WebM export when visible during the rendered range.
- Select a tool from the Studio tool rail (Text, Elements, and so on).
- Move the playhead to where the overlay should begin.
- Add a layer from the left panel — it appears at the playhead with a default duration.
- Drag in the preview to reposition; drag timeline edges to adjust timing.
Text
Add titles, subtitles, and labels. Set content, font size, color, alignment, and on-screen position in the Text tool panel. Text layers are ideal for chapter titles, product names, and CTAs.
Elements
Visual emphasis for tutorial-style videos. Available element types:
- Badge — compact label or tag
- Arrow — point at UI or on-screen action
- Highlight — draw attention to a region
- Frame — border or focus frame around content
Annotations
Callouts, underlines, and circles with optional short text. Use annotations for step numbers, warnings, or quick notes without a full title card.
Captions
Manual caption blocks with timing and placement. Add spoken lines as readable subtitles that appear while the video plays. Import from SRT or VTT files is planned.
Editing overlays
- Click an overlay in the preview or timeline to select it.
- Drag to move; use arrow keys to nudge (hold Shift for larger steps).
- Adjust start/end times in the tool panel or by dragging block edges on the timeline.
- Delete the selected overlay with Delete or Backspace (same as removing a segment).
- Multiple overlay types can stack — captions below text, media behind callouts, and so on.
